- Trust in God
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2
We (Christians) trust God knowing he will never fail us (Deu 32:4). Moses, like us, also trusted Him. In Psalm 91 he gives a glimpse of his confidence in God naming him Most High, Almighty, Lord and God. These names help us understand why we will never be disappointed, destitute or defenceless:
- Most High – he is the ultimate authority (Psa 47:2)
- Almighty – he has ultimate power (Job 37:23)
- Lord – he is, was and will always be the Lord of all (Rev 1:8)
- God – he is unique, there is none like him. (Job 36:22)
These names prove that trusting Him is the best thing we can ever do. In the same reflection, Moses describes our privilege of having a close and personal relationship with him. He states that we dwell in God’s shelter (or secret place), reminding us how much he cherishes us and how precious we are to Him. He also states we abide (pass the night) in His shadow, reassuring us that He is very near to us.
Moses caps his reflection declaring God is his refuge and fortress in whom he trusts. No matter how overwhelmed we might feel, let us never forget that our Great God is watching over us, protecting and nurturing us in His secret place near to Him.
Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:4
