The mercies of God

The mercies of God

The mercies of God are many and wonderful – more spectacular than a star-filled sky on a clear summer’s evening. The greatest mercy is the gift of his son as the saviour of the world. If we choose to accept him as our saviour, we will be saved from a future of never-ending punishment (1 Tim 1:15).

Never-ending punishment is a result of sin, it is what we deserve as we have all fallen short of God’s glory (Rom 3:23) – our gravestone will testify of this.  But God, in mercy, has provided a way for anyone (and everyone) to have victory over death and sin (1 Cor 15:55).  All it requires is for us to accept him (Joh 3:16).

When Jesus died and then rose from the dead it was for us and for God!  Jesus had power over death as he never sinned. Still, he chose to die in a way that is more awful than anyone else has or will experience (Mat 27:45-46, Phi 2:8).

I suggest another important mercy that God gives us is each new day, for it provides each person who has not believed the opportunity to claim the Lord Jesus Christ as their saviour.   It also gifts the Christian with another opportunity to reflect and grow their appreciation of God’s patience and longsuffering as well as his other wonderful mercies.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”  Lamentations 3:22-24
