Simeon and the flow of blessings

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, Psalm 103:2

Simeon saw and held the Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace (Luk 2:25,27, Isa 9:6). This blessing resulted in God being blessed (Psa 103:1) as well as many others. In this snippet (the final instalment of a set exploring 7 attributes of Simeon) we will briefly consider the flow of blessings that occurred when Simeon saw and held our Lord.

Holding our Lord in his arms Simeon proclaimed something remarkable: the Lord Jesus Christ shall rise and fall and reveal the thoughts of the heart (Luk 2:34-36). We can have the same blessing, that is the ability to learn and share truths about the Son of God when we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our reading of, and meditation on, the bible (Joh 16:13).

In addition, those around him were also blessed, consider how Joseph and Mary marvelled (Luk 2:33). The word marvel implies they looked with wonder and were amazed at what they heard and saw. When we walk with our Lord just as Simeon did, he through the Spirit will share truths about himself resulting in God being blessed (Psa 104:1), as well as those around us. Further, it may also lead others to give praise to our Lord leading to another flow of blessings (Luk 2:36-38).

Amazingly, the flow of blessings continues until this day.

We, over 2000 years later, many in countries that were unknown at the time, are blessed to be able to meditate upon this instance for His glory!

Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is the love of God flowing through you?
Are you telling the lost of the Saviour?
Are you ready His service to do?

Simeon, our Lord and the temple

And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”  Luk 2:22-35
