Benefits of Spending Time with God – Part 5
There is none holy like the LORD: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:2
Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ have a wonderful blessing – they can experience the blessing of God’s presence anywhere.
JOHN’S REVELATION (REVELATION 1:1-19)
Sixty years after the upper room events (Joh 20:19-29), our Lord appeared unto John. John, isolated, alone and exiled heard a commandto write to the seven churches (Rev 2-3). He turned to see the “Alpha and Omega, the one who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Rev 1:8). Overwhelmed by our Lord’s magnificence, he fell at his feet as if he were dead. Our Lord did not leave him there! He reached down, placed his hand on his shoulder (Rev 1:17) and said, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades “(Rev 1:17,18) – as far as we know, our Lord had never previously identified himself in this way. This shows that even in the most difficult of circumstances, we can commune with our Lord and be rewarded with a deeper appreciation of Him.
Reflecting on this series of snippets, we can only conclude that when we commune with our Lord through prayer and meditating on his word we will see more of his love, grace, mercy compassion, assurance, longsuffering, divine authority and much more. There is no substitute for it! Let us never rob ourselves of this privilege and blessing.
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. Psalm 139:7-12
