Mighty God – The Ultimate Gift, Part 5
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
The Lord Jesus Christ demonstrates he is the Mighty God in many ways. This includes:
As the Creator, our Lord Jesus Christ created all things showing his love, grace and mercy.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through him and for him. Col 1:16
There are several ways the Lord Jesus Christ showed his might when he created all things – He created it all in 6 days and produced life when previously nothing existed. Remarkably, he did it by calling it into existence with his voice (Gen 1).
As the Curator, the Lord Jesus Christ gives us each day. He makes and maintains it for God’s glory and our benefit. His motive is that he is not willing for anyone to perish 2 Pet 3:8-9:
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psa 118:24
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power… Heb 1:3
As the Concluder, the Lord Jesus Christ will, in a future day, conclude everything and judge everyone – there are no exceptions.
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, Heb 9:27
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; … Heb 2:3
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. Rev 20:12
These are three ways that the Lord Jesus Christ shows us his might! Previously, he did it in other ways including changing water into wine (John 2:1-11), feeding 5000+ plus people with five loaves and two fish (Joh 6:1-14) and calming storms (Mar 4:39). Remarkably this same person chose to die for each one of us and now lives in Heaven and is one day coming back to earth to take every believer home to live with him for evermore.
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
